Traditionally, in our home the role of "Top Cat" has been bestowed upon the most
senior kitty. This also meets the spirit and intent of U.S. Dept of Labor regulations
for domestic animal companions and complies with the work rules of Local 139 of
the International Brotherhood of Domesticated Felines.

After the passing of the former Top Cat, Miss Tigger, we were faced with a
difficult decision. Annabelle and Penelope were both eligible for the position,
but they are sisters and their birth order was not known. We would have to
select the best qualified kitty to be the Top Cat, and develop a position with
similar responsibility and prestige for the unselected competitor.

Both candidates competed tooth and nail for the coveted position.

During face to face interviews with the selection board

both candidates exhibited expertise, grace and a strong odor of fish.

Both competitors demonstrated complete mastery of the

primary feline characteristic of sleeping 19 hours per day.

Both were equally adept at silently and gracefully stalking

through the rooms of our house in search of prey to catch and eat.

Annabelle took a strong lead when she took the role of adopted "Mom" of the two
new kittens, Chloe and Phoebe.

But Annabelle lost points when she demonstrated a very permissive parenting style.

In the end, Annabelle became the "Big Kahuna", the Top Cat.

Penelope accepted the position of Senior Assistant Top Cat and Chief Geek Kitty.
